Wall St. throws Elliot Spitzer under the bus

Looks like Wall St. has thrown Spitzer under the bus.

Spitzer Resists Calls to Resign - WSJ.com: "Mr. Spitzer's status as a prominent government official appears to have opened the door to investigation into the matter. Many banks now examine transactions involving so-called 'politically exposed persons' -- politicians, judges, prosecutors and their families -- to ensure they're not used to hide ill-gotten gains. At least one bank used by Mr. Spitzer, Capital One Corp.'s North Fork unit, flagged his transactions to federal regulators as a potential sign of corruption, people with knowledge of the transactions said."

Interfluidity :: Repurchase agreements and covert nationalization: "What we are witnessing is an incremental, partial nationalization of the US banking system. Northern Rock in the UK is peanuts compared to what the New York Fed is up to."

Sarcasm reigns as Hillary Clinton attacks Barack Obama's campaign

Special interests won't disappear from Hillary's roster of supporters even if Obama becomes the nominee. That's because Hillary won't let them.

Sarcasm reigns as Hillary Clinton attacks Barack Obama's campaign: "'Maybe I've just lived a little long, but I have no illusions about how hard this is going to be,' she said. 'You are not going to wave a magic wand and have the special interests disappear.'"

Romney to withdraw from White House race

This is important because Romney is a flip-flopping slimeball. I was secretly hoping that we would see McCain vs. Hillary or Obama in November. Most definitely, I did not want to see Romney as a nominee.

Romney to withdraw from White House race | Special reports | Guardian Unlimited: "The former Massachusetts governor pulled out after losing considerable ground to McCain in the coast-to-coast Super Tuesday primary contests. He also failed to edge out ordained Baptist preacher Mike Huckabee in the socially conservative southern states."

Gates: U.S. won't promise to defend Iraq in accord | Politics | Reuters: "'The status-of-forces agreement that is being discussed will not contain a commitment to defend Iraq and neither will any strategic framework agreement,' Gates told a U.S. Senate panel."

The Associated Press: McCain's Lead Grows for GOP Nod

Now that McCain is a clear front-runner, is it possible for Romney to get out of the picture ? In this election cycle I consider myself a Democrat but to cover my bases I would prefer McCain to be the Republican candidate. That is, of course, in case Democrats lose.

The Associated Press: McCain's Lead Grows for GOP Nod: "Nearly complete delegate returns from coast-to-coast races on Super Tuesday left McCain with 703 delegates, nearly 60 percent of the 1,191 needed to win the nomination at the convention in St. Paul, Minn., this summer.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had 260, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee 190 and Texas Rep. Ron Paul 14."

On every issue, Americans trust Democrats more than Republicans

Glenn Greenwald - Political Blogs and Opinions - Salon: "The latest Washington Post/ABC News poll reveals that Americans trust Democrats more than Republicans to handle every issue of any significance, including -- by a now fairly wide margin -- 'the U.S. campaign against terrorism'"
